| "Restore
the SE 13th Street Median" BACKGROUND INFO |
| Sept. 16, 2004 — Workers pave a median owned by the City of Fort Lauderdale to provide 'private' parking for the First Christian Church on SE 13th Street. Grass was torn out to turn the neighborhood's attractive linear park/entryway into a parking lot for 14 cars. The area's landscaped medians were declared a neighborhood asset in the S. Andrews Master Plan and by a former City Manager and city Parks Director. |

Thomas Hoskins |
I went into my copy of "Checkered Sunshine" and learned that the wide streets and medians in Poinciana Park/Croissant Park were put in at the insistence of Thomas E. Hoskins and his wife. Hoskins was a Chicago investor and part of a group that bought the entire Croissant Park subdivision. Frank Croissant was their developer and sales manager. The streets were designed to rival the ones built in Hollywood by Joseph Young, the Hollywood developer (Young Circle). Take THAT, Hollywood!! Hoskins became Mayor of Fort Lauderdale in November 1929 and served for two years. The current Poinciana Park neighborhood includes part of the original Croissant Park plat. |
